About Biofeedback

Learn how biofeedback works, the different types, and the wide range of conditions it can help address.

What is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is a mind-body technique that allows the practitioner to get information about the state of the client’s physiology in real time. Using this information, the practitioner can either work with the client to gain control of these internal processes or the practitioner can treat the client. Either way, the practitioner is able to use this information to help guide the client in ways that promote homeostasis.

Biofeedback is a safe, non-invasive, and drug-free approach that has been proven effective for a wide range of conditions.

Types of Biofeedback

There are two main types of biofeedback, each with a distinct approach to working with clients.

Traditional Biofeedback

The client actively participates, using specialized equipment to monitor physiological signals. With practice and guidance, the client learns to consciously regulate their responses to improve health.

COMMON MODALITIES

Thermal Regulation
Galvanic Skin Response
Respiratory Feedback
Surface Electromyography
Heart Rate Variability
Blood Volume Pulse
Neo-Biofeedback

Neo-biofeedback also utilizes specialized technology, but in this approach, the practitioner takes a more active role in providing treatment. While the client still benefits from the physiological feedback, the focus is on receiving therapeutic interventions rather than actively learning self-regulation techniques.

COMMON MODALITIES

Multi-Channel Scanning Systems
Auricular Therapy
Voll Scanning
DiaDens
Ryodoraku
Audio-Visual Entrainment
Adjunctive Therapies

Often used in tandem with Traditional and Neo Biofeedback sessions to support and enhance efficacy. Some are used directly during sessions; others are used outside the office to further healing and wellness.
